Savoring Fragrance: A Journey Through the Art of Traditional Chinese Scented Tea

Savoring Fragrance: A Journey Through the Art of Traditional Chinese Scented Tea

Yesterday, we hosted a truly enchanting tea tasting — an experience filled not just with flavour, but with fragrance. We explored five exquisite varieties of traditional Chinese scented teas (窨花茶), each revealing a unique floral world. By the end, we could only sigh in admiration: fragrance can indeed embody sophistication. ✨

But let us clarify — this wasn’t about sipping herbal teas with floating petals. No, we indulged in authentic “Xun Zhi” (窨制) crafted teas. This centuries-old process pairs fresh blossoms with tea leaves in repeated layers, allowing the leaves to fully absorb the natural floral essence before the petals are meticulously removed. The true aroma lingers within the brew, not on its surface. This is the essence of Chinese floral tea artistry — elegant, refined, and deeply immersive. 🌿

Curious about what we tasted? Here’s a glimpse into our fragrant lineup:

🍂 Osmanthus Tieguanyin — A taste of autumn in advance. The orchid notes of Tieguanyin are delicately wrapped in the honeyed sweetness of osmanthus — soft, warming, and wonderfully soothing.

🌹 Rose Black Tea — Consider it a "love-infused" tea. The rich, mellow sweetness of black tea flirts with a hint of rose's gentle charm. It was an instant favourite among the ladies.

🌼 Jasmine Tieguanyin — A truly multi-dimensional aroma — like walking through a floral oolong fragrance corridor. Jasmine opens the journey, followed by orchid mid-notes, finishing with a lingering sweetness.

🍃 Jasmine Green Tea — The ultimate refresher. Clean, bright, and crisp — perfect for summer days. It’s just as delightful cold-brewed.

🌸 Nine-Times Scented Jasmine Silver Needle — Our grand finale. Crafted through an intricate process, this tea offers a calm, delicate fragrance with the restrained elegance unique to white tea. It’s the kind of brew you’d savour quietly for an entire afternoon.

To elevate the experience, we designed custom tea cards, kept fragrance notes, and set the mood with floral arrangements and gentle music. Our guests didn’t just drink tea — they appreciated fragrance. Many said, “This isn’t just a tea tasting; it’s a sensory art experience.” And yes, everyone wanted to take home every single tea we shared! 🎁

If you’ve ever thought floral tea equals artificial "perfume-like" flavours, you’ve probably never encountered true scented tea craftsmanship. 🌺

This tea tasting wasn’t just about flowers or tea — it was about discovering the spirit of the blossom and the character of the leaf. 🍃✨
